Workshop It

Picture of me falling out of a handstand – those ladies were my safety net!

Last Saturday, I had the privilege of attending Fly Over Your Fears a workshop taught by Heidi Kristoffer. The workshop was about falling safely from any inversion, specifically handstands. 30 plus people achieved this goal at the commencement of the day. I want to take more workshops moving forward because it honed in and dissected one specific topic. Our mats were lined up against the wall, our neighbors were all helpful and supportive, there were seasoned yogis and some with no practice, it was just a melting pot of determination. We all wanted to fly – and we all did!

The workshop was hosted by Strala Yoga and there will be more every month. Even if you know how to do a handstand I think you can get a lot out of a workshop. It helps you break down different ways to get into the pose, where you should feel the pose, how you can prepare for the pose, and all these methods of deconstruction help you construct the perfect pose. Even Tara Stiles took the workshop and she obviously knows how to do a handstand. It was so liberating. I can’t wait to take more. I will post a picture of my handstand at the year end. It needs some improvement but I’ll get there.
